Visit the magnificent Kylemore Abbey which was built by Mitchell Henry in 1867. This 15,000 acre estate was bought as a love token for his wife Margaret and as a nesting place for his growing family. His wife's passion for beauty is reflected in the interior design of this 17th Century building which was designed by Italian and Irish craftsmen. Enjoy afternoon tea at The Mitchells Cafe with locally produced quality cuisine. Visit the ancient original Abbey that is home to the order of Benedictine Nuns. Enjoy breath-taking views across the lake or take a hike in the woods and visit the excellent clothes and craft shop full of prestigious Irish made designs.
